Musical Tuesday: The History Lesson

I know this has always been random. That I have a day where  I just rant about what song i've been singing all week.
Seriously, you think it has nothing to do with books but let me tell you how I came up with the idea almost 2 years (YIKES!) ago.

Way back in 2011. I was on a mission. Find something interesting and consistent to say to people. I've seen stuff like Free book Fridays (Gemma Halliday) and Self Publishing tips 101 (Multiple authors).
I was just starting out and as a writer I knew a few things as fact. I like to read. I like to write. I like to do both with music in the background.

If you didn't know I have dedicated music pages to each of my book series. If you don't believe me go check. (I'll wait) Okay, so this is my only must when writing. Loud music! It's my motivator. In my head, before i start a book I make book playlists (Hopefully they could be awesome soundtracks one day) They motivate and I usually play songs that go along with what I'm writing. For example, When I write a sad, heartbreaking scene, I will more than likely be listening to a gut wrenchingly sad song that no one should be listening to unless they want to cry. My present selection while writing Familiar was Forever and Always by Parachute. If you haven't heard that song I suggest it. If you have heard it and haven't teared I think you should be out searching for your soul because it is sad. Really Sad.

Back to the point. Musical Tuesday is me ranting about songs I listen to all day while writing. It makes me feel like I'm giving not only the book to everyone but a little bit of why the hell I wrote that.

(Just so you all can see my point Parachute is the song this week. Have your hanky handy.)

Let me Reintroduce you to The Rena Files

I thought this would be a great blog to talk about The Rena Files. I had a lot of trouble finding my characters again after I wrote the second book, Puzzled. I had written Puzzled in 2010, but left it simmering until last summer. To keep it simple, I was preoccupied. I basically wrote all three Secrets books back to back. The only times I acknowledged The Rena Files was to edit and do rewrites of sections. To make matters worse, I got even more sidetracked with Enchanted. The idea for the series was just one of those all consuming ideas that wouldn't leave my head until i had written it down.

So August 2012, I started looking for Rena and friends again so I could finally write Familiar and Return. I felt like i was relearning everything again all the little mannerisms everyone had. Rena's all important need to snoop. Most importantly, I had to relearn the dynamic between Rena and Jesse. They are very different from Annie and Ian and Max.

Okay back to the story. Somewhere between the fifteenth and the fiftieth rewrite of the Familiar outline. I found the story. I even found my subplot. Everything started to work out and fall into place. Familiar has been one of the hardest stories for me to tell because it's not like the rest of the series.

This is where I go back to The Rena Files and Puzzled.
The Rena Files if you haven't guessed or haven't read (Which i suggest you do. It has been recently revamped to include a snazzy new cover too! Click here for more info) is about Rena Solis. She's sixteen, she's a little paranoid, and she's a little insecure but we can just chalk that up to the fact that she keeping a MEGA secret from her best friend, Caitlin. Rena also happens to be the lucky girl who finds a dead body at the Junior Prom. After a lot of confusion, misunderstandings, and a little help from her family connections. Rena sets out  to figure out what the heck is happening at Walterville High.

Puzzled, is book # 2 in the series. It picks up a few months after The Rena Files. Summer is coming to an end and the smell of blood is back in the air. At her summer internship with the Walterville Police Department, Rena finds herself in the middle of the hunt for one the deadliest serial killers and he has been leaving a trail of bodies in her town. (Puzzled has also been revamped and reedited getting it's very own snazzy cover as well. Click here for more info)

I think that is it for now.

I'm in a fun mood today! So let me start by saying DANCE! God only knows why I like this song especially since I'm well past 22. Now I think I'm off to play some Just Dance (if you can't make yourself happy with all awful dance moves then you are going to be as miserable as grumpy cat!)

Now, I leave you with a teaser because isn't what i always do?
I'm reading too much for my own good. I know I have a problem. It's impossible to be a writer and not LOVE reading! I'll admit it has taken away from me writing all week (or the last 6 days). Here's how bad it's been.
Thursday night - started and finished Fallen to Far by Ali Glines
Friday- Started and finished Never to Far by Ali Glines
Saturday- Started and Finished Better off Dead by H.P. Mallory
Sunday and beyond- The Complete Bombay Assassins Series by Leslie Langtry.

I do have to say that in between that I have worked in four chapters. (Taps self proudly on the shoulder) I'm going cold turkey once i finish this last book. Even though i have a mountain of books in my Nook begging for attention T_T

Sorry for the random rambling today.

LL

So let's start with the twist. This song is an oldie but while I'm wrapping up the third book in The Rena Files Series. I like to think that this song was a great motivator in actually getting my butt writing but since I only heard it for the first time two weeks ago. It's not true. Anyways this song just sounds like it was made for books. It speaks of love that transcends everything including fighting for what you love. If that doesn't describe an epic romance then i don't know what does.

Keep Reading Bookworms!

Musical Tuesday with a Mix of Novella News

It's Tuesday again. So I prepare you for my little rant on this song, because I have one. When I first heard this song. To be honest, I HATED It. I thought this song started weird and is it me or does she sound a little demented as she yells that she never wants to fall in love but is technically in love and avoiding the reality. So, let's see I picked this song because after repetitive play on the radio. The song is growing on me like mold grows in a basement. The worst part is I sing along and i'm still not convinced i like the song.Sorry for the ramble, Are there any other songs that make you feel this way?

More Exciting News coming your way!
